3- Workshop Title:South - South Cooperation in Intellectual Property Rights, Technology Transfer and Innovation (summary)
In the past decades, many so called “Emerging Countries” have successfully used Innovation, Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) to develop themselves and provide for the necessary facilities to their population, among others accessible and affordable medicines, improved seeds, and other technological innovations. Those countries, while applying Intellectual Property (IP) international regulations, have taken into account the local needs and realities to draw their own national IP policies and strategies.
While recognizing the importance of North – South Cooperation in the field of Innovation, Technology Transfer and IP, we should see South – South cooperation as another very important stream of international cooperation, as the sharing among Emerging countries and developing countries of common realities and challenges in the field of IP makes South-South cooperation in this area particularly relevant and a fertile ground for sharing experiences.

4- Workshop Title:Development of Entrepreneurial Behaviour in SMEs (summary)
Businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, play a significant part in development of the economy. Most of the developing countries rely on large firms or multinationals for creation of jobs and upliftment of the wealth. However, historical trends have shown that this is not the case. Small businesses create employment opportunities and cheaper products on low overheads; however, these are also threatened by larger enterprises for their survival. Paving way for successful small businesses comes only with development of entrepreneurial behaviour.
This presentation focuses on importance of entrepreneurial behaviour for the growth of small businesses. It is easier to set up a small enterprise but it takes passion, commitment and low degree of uncertainty avoidance –essentially the core elements of entrepreneurial behaviour- to take these businesses to the next level. Small enterprises are at a greater risk due to lack of managerial skills, lack of finances, lack of competitor and market information and lack of corporate outlook. However, if attention is paid to development of entrepreneurial behaviour at large, all these problems can be resolved.
Entrepreneurship is the ability to seek out opportunities and turn them to profitable businesses. In the developing world, not only do the enterprises face internal problems but are also disturbed by political interference, terrorism, lack of infrastructure and technology. And more importantly, the failure of many new enterprises can be attributed to lack of entrepreneurial knowledge. This presentation will not only discuss the factors that play a key role in failure of many new entrepreneurial ventures but will also focus on how these businesses could be saved by applying entrepreneurial knowledge, theory and practice.

7- Workshop Title:Knowledge Management and Its Organizational Application for Sustainable Development Intervention (summary)
Knowledge management is the fundamental key enabler for any organization, irrespective of profit making or not. However, in a developmental nonprofit organization where there is a need as well as the application of KM has a pivotal role for sustainable development intervention. This is because the developmental and poverty reduction intervention have to build, customize, retain, utilize, transfer and exchange their knowledge to partners and stakeholders.
In these developmental organizations, not only organizations do have distinct features and characteristics, but also there are no universal sustainable development management constructs that are applicable to all organization. Similarly, it is unlikely that a universal KM model can be applied to all sustainable development interventions. Nevertheless, it is possible to view the KM in different sustainable development interventions in terms of the application among the different resources and enablers of the sustainable development management and thus develop a useful generic KM organizational application for a better understanding and application to suite the very demand.
To ensure that the right knowledge is available to the right person at the right time – and also that this person is in the right place. KM should support the core task of every development organization. In addition, its operationalisation should takes place on a segment-, organizational unit-, regional office and job-specific basis.
Through KM policy and strategies sustainable development intervention can insure sustaining knowledge across task and development by identifying and capturing the information that exists across the organization, help staff to find, organize, and share the knowledge they already have. Moreover, increase the exchange of knowledge, collaboration and facilitate knowledge sharing by developing techniques and tools to enable the sharing of knowledge and experience within and outside. Managers must therefore develop, maintain, and renew the knowledge and competence that service employees require to perform the core service and maintain the fundamental promises of the provider’s value proposition.
My presentation will give insight on how KM principles apply in organizational to support sustainable development interventions. Furthermore, how innovative KM used to harness the value of knowledge thereby increase the quality and impacts of the services and organization provide and make an important contribution to sustainable development management.
